Another foot in the mouth...

The strange case of the arrest and imprisonment of the daughter of an Indian Diplomat is escalating to a major diplomatic crisis.

Krittika Biswas, the daughter of Indian Diplomat Debasis Biswas, is suing New York Police Department, for wrongful confinement, arrest, and humiliation, when she was chained and handcuffed, without any proper evidence, for 1.5 million dollars.

Eighteen-year-old Krittika Biswas, the daughter of a diplomat serving at the Indian Consulate General in Manhattan, was arrested by New York police in February and accused of sending obscene emails to a teacher. Police kept her in custody for 24 hours, though inspectors later cleared her of all charges.

The major row came when US State Dept official, Mark Toner said that "Diplomatic Immunity is not for the kins of the diplomat."

However, The opening of Article 37 of Vienna Convention states otherwise.

" 1. The members of the family of a diplomatic agent forming part of his household shall, if they are

not nationals of the receiving State, enjoy the privileges and immunities specified in articles 29 to 36. "
