London Caribbean street party is a 'police Carnival'

Hundreds of thousands of revellers attended the Notting Hill Carnival highlight of the British August bank holiday weekend, policed by 11,000 officers. Some commentators have called the police numbers and tactics at the London event "overwhelming and oppressive ". Trouble flared this year when youths, denied access to a street blocked off by police, hurled missiles at officers. There were injuries on both sides and more than 140 people were arrested.
